Hunting Chris Huhne
Chris Huhne like the Bismark in World War 2 is being hunted, systematically a carefully controlled campaign is being waged to keep a constant barrage on the beleaguered Lib Dem politician.
The big questions are who did Huhne piss off this badly and when?
In April Huhne unleashed a bitter and personal attack on the Lib Dem Leader and odious munchkin, NIck Clegg which was to be the prelude to another bid for the Lib Dem Leadership, by Huhne.
Then there was the problem with the AV Referendum where Huhne got slapped down by Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne.
None of these actions really guaranteed to win friends and influence people.
The story of alleged transfer of speeding penalty points to former wife Vicky Price grinds inexorably like a giant sloth to a sort of Greek Tradegy ending.
To keep the pressure up that old chestnut, and favourite for damaging a politician floats up, “irregularities” with the reporting of monies spent in Huhne’s election campaign. The political equivalent of tax evasion that did for Al Capone.
Beleaguered Energy Secretary Chris Huhne was under fresh pressure last night after an investigation was launched into allegations that he broke strict spending rules in last year’s general election.
The Electoral Commission said it was beginning an inquiry into claims that the Lib Dem Cabinet minister failed to declare spending on leaflets that would have taken him over the limit allowed for candidates in a general election.
The complaint is also likely to be referred to the police.
The Sunlight Centre for Open Politics, which lodged the complaint, said it had found evidence of a potential overspend.
The Electoral Commission said an initial examination of the complaint suggested the ‘possibility of an offence under Representation of the People Act 1983’.
It will now hold a full case review
This is now one concerted and determined attack to finish Huhne not only politically, but personally as well as there is a constant theme of police involvement in every new allegation.
On May 21, the Daily Mail revealed that aides of Mr Huhne were taped apparently admitting they misled the authorities over his general election expenses.
Mr Huhne’s election agent is heard telling colleagues the campaign cost £60,000 – £10,000 more than declared.
Huhne by now, should be steaming in circles, awaiting the coup de grace, instead a severely battered Huhne steams onward, largely alone into ever stormier waters.
Aardvark is no fan of Chris Huhne, which probably comes as a surprise, we are diametrically opposed on the AGW scam and that’s before we get onto politics, but, and it is a big but, it’s difficult not to have a sneaking admiration for Chris Huhne who despite it all, has kept his dignity, refrained largely from mud slinging and just keeps moving forward through a never ending shitstorm.
Huhne is probably the last of the decent Liberal/Left Wing politicians who you can have a reasoned debate with, without Huhne resorting to hate, sexual slurs and vitriol, like you could in the days before the Left became Libtards.
