Keystone XL Decision Will Cost Obama The Green Vote

The go ahead for the 1700 mile long pipeline will cost Obama the Green vote

This is one of those rare win win stories, a win because a sensible idea that will help with US energy security for many years to come has been given the green light, and a further win because in making that decision Obama’s regime has angered the Greens and other eco mentalists who are against any form of economic progress that is not written in the scriptures of the Church of Climatology.

Keystone XL is a 1700 mile pipeline that will stretch from Alberta in Canada to refineries in Texas and Oklahoma, the pipeline will be buried 4 feet underground and have switch off points every 20 miles.

As usual the eco mentalists and some key players in the Great Global Warming Scam like James Hansen, are crying out about wolves made of CO2, environmental holocaust, and all the usual things to be frightened of:

The project, which would be the longest oil pipeline outside of Russia and China, has become a potent symbol in a growing fight that pits energy security against environmental risk, a struggle highlighted by last year’s oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

By concluding that the $7 billion Keystone XL pipeline would have minimal effect on the environment, President Obama would risk alienating environmental activists, who gave him important support in the 2008 election and were already upset by his recent decisions to expand domestic oil drilling and delay clean air rules. Pipeline opponents have protested in front of the White House for a week, resulting in nearly 400 arrests.

At the same time, rising concerns about the weak economy and high gas prices have made it difficult for the administration to oppose a project that would greatly expand the nation’s access to oil from a friendly neighbor and create tens of thousands of jobs.

The peak of the Climate of Fear success was 2006, the economic turndown across the industrialised world, coupled with public indifference to fear stories about the climate that never happen means that pandering to the watermelons is no longer a net vote winner, despite the setteld science Obama had in 2009.

Michael Brune, executive director of the Sierra Club, urged President Obama to veto the project, despite the State Department’s willingness to see it proceed.

It will be increasingly difficult to mobilize the environmental base and to mobilize in particular young people to volunteer, to knock on thousands of doors, to put in 16-hour days, to donate money if they don’t think the president is showing the courage to stand up to big polluters,” he said.

Julian E. Zelizer, professor of history and public affairs at Princeton University, said that the 2012 election was shaping up to be close and the president could not afford to take these activists for granted. “I think a year ago President Obama felt he could do things that might alienate his base and organizations important to the Democratic Party and get away with it because in the end most Democrats wouldn’t go for a Republican,” Mr. Zelizer said. “Now he might pay a price for it.”

Obama is a politician first and foremost, he knows he is setting new record lows in public approval and faced with working for the votes of a declining number of voters that still believe in Climate Religion or appealing to far more voters with jobs and energy security is a no brainer for anyone not blinded  by Climate Religion.

Globally Green jobs have proved to be a mirage projected by the Church of Climatology, the oil industry however has a proven track record of creating jobs and wealth.

Obama has been accused of Green washing, very probably true, but then those that were stupid enough to believe that a man who appeared to be all things to everybody, really was that, should stay off the pixie dust and stop putting carrots out for Santa’s reindeer.
