Guardian Tries To Spin Decline In Climate Religion Belief

Eco mentalists like to try and spin numbers normally by cherry picking selected numbers out of context and then interpreting them as positive to their evangelistic crusade against an inert trace gas that is essential to plant life on this planet.

Michael Mann set the precedent for warming alarmist number crunchers with his rigged program that would produce a hockey stick out of any number series, more recently a Greenpeace/IPCC report used spin to make a fantasy claim about renewable energy, so no surprises that Damian Carrington in the Guardian is trying to convince himself that globally overall, all is well for his Climate Religion:

The global climate negotiations, still the only real game in town, are dominated by the US and China. The Nielsen survey finds that less than half of Americans (48%) are concerned about global warming, compared to 51% in 2009 and 62% in 2007. With 14 point fall in 4 years, one can see why Republican climate sceptics feel comfortable rejecting the idea that every nation on earth (including their own) has accepted: that human activities are causing climate change and that the need to cut greenhouse gas emissions is pressing.

Back in 2006 this might have been true, but in 2011 post Climategate and with big questions hanging over the science and the dubious methods of peer review, not all countries now accept that climate change is anthropogenic.

More surprisingly perhaps, opinion in China is also on the slide. Concern fell from 77% in 2009 to 64% in 2011, putting it back nearer to 2007’s figure of 60%.

But turning to two other big beasts at the climate talks, the opposite trend is seen. In India, concern about global warming is at 86%, up from 80% in 2007, and concern in Europe has risen from 58% to 68% since 2009

Carrington is being disingenuous about India, if belief in Climate Religion in India really is 86% and politicians bow to public pressure as Carrington would have us believe then the big question is why is India abandoning Climate Religion.

Carrington then tries to tell us why Climate Religion is in serious decline in Britain:

Maxwell Boykoff, senior visiting research associate from Oxford University’s Environmental Change Institute says of the survey: “Focus on immediate worries such as job security, local school quality, crime and economic well-being have all diminished media attention for climate stories in the past two years. In the face of other pressing concerns, a public ‘caring capacity’ for climate change has been tested. Without continued attention paid to global warming/climate change in the media, such concerns may have faded from the collective public conscience.”

Nothing to do with Climategate, all the other gates, the junk science from the UN comedy outfit masquerading as the IPCC, 3 decades of failed climate Armageddon prophecies and ever increasing fuel costs then.

The bad news is that in many of the nations with the biggest carbon footprints – US, UK and Australia (per capita) and China (total emissions)

Carrington tries to make his point with blatant cherry picking of data, not comparing like with like specifically per capita for Australia and total emissions for China.

In the Guardians own table of CO2 footprints by country:

China is the biggest emitter of CO2 with a 13.3% increase in emissions from 2008 – 2009

The US is the second biggest with a 7% decrease in from 2008 – 2009

Britain is tenth with a 7.8% decrease and currently emits 1.73% of global CO2 emissions

Australis is number 15 with a 1.8% decrease and currently emits 1.43% of global emissions.

Climate Religion is doing well in countries where the population is less sophisticated and informed than in nations like Britain and the US, and above all where the politicians have told the population to expect guilt money from the industrialised nations.

Someone really should tell Damian Carrington that the UN redistributes wealth by climate policy and that all pretence of real science died long ago.
