COP17 Fear Stories – The World Will End In 2017

The new deadline to prevent Climate Armageddon is 2017

As the doomed COP17 Durban UN Climate Conference draws ever closer, the warming alarmists are following their time honoured tradition of lots of scary Climate of Fear stories.

The most bizarre scare story for a long while appeared in August 2011 when the world was warned to expect Alien invasion because Green ecomentalists from Alpha Centauri would wipe us out due to the levels of CO2 in the planet’s atmosphere.

The Arctic was supposed to be ice free by 2012, as this has once again failed to happen the warming alarmists have now shifted the date of the “might be” event to 2030.

The latest fear story for COP17 is from the International Energy Agency which predicts that at the current rate of CO2 emissions the climate will have been irreversibly damaged by 2017 unless of course, we all have a wind turbine strapped to our heads:

Anything built from now on that produces carbon will continue to do so for decades to come, and this “lock-in” effect will be the single factor most likely to produce irreversible climate change, the world’s foremost authority on energy economics has found. If this infrastructure is not rapidly changed within the next five years, the results are likely to be disastrous.

“The door is closing,” Fatih Birol, chief economist at the International Energy Agency, told the Guardian. “I am very worried – if we don’t change direction now on how we use energy, we will end up beyond what scientists tell us is the minimum [for safety]. The door will be closed forever.”

Absolute nonsense, the Earth’s atmosphere is not sealed from space, in earlier times specifically the Bronze Age and the Middle Age Warming Period (MWP) the plant was much warmer than today and it cooled down during the Little Ice Age which immediately followed the MWP.

Every month now counts: if the world is to stay below 2C of warming, which scientists regard as the limit of safety, then emissions must be held to no more than 450ppm of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere; the level is currently around 390ppm. But the world’s existing infrastructure is already producing 80% of that “carbon budget”, according to a new analysis by the IEA, published on Wednesday. This gives an ever-narrowing gap in which to reform the global economy on to a low-carbon footing.

Time to shift another set in stone marker for climate Armageddon, 450 ppm of CO2, poor old 350.org that was set up to support the fallacy that the only safe level of atmospheric CO2 was 350 ppm.

If current trends continue, and we go on building high-carbon energy generation, then by 2015 at least 90% of the available “carbon budget” will be swallowed up by our energy and industrial infrastructure. By 2017, there will be no room for manoeuvre at all – the whole of the “carbon budget” will be spoken for, according to the IEA’s calculations.

Birol’s warning comes at a crucial moment in international negotiations on climate change, as governments gear up for the next fortnight of talks in Durban, South Africa, from late November. “If we do not have an international agreement, whose effect is put in place by 2017, then the door to [holding temperatures to 2C of warming] will be closed forever,” said Birol.

Atmospheric CO2 increases but still the global temperatures stay static, proving once again there is no link between concentrations of CO2 in the atmospehere and global temperatures.

Changing the date of impending doom has long been part of the scam as amply demonstrated by Rajendra Pachuari head of the IPCC:

We have just a small window of opportunity and it is closing rather rapidly. There is not a moment to lose.
January 2005

If there’s no action before 2012, that’s too late. What we do in the next two to three years will determine our future. This is the defining moment.
November 2007

I am very worried that we are running out of time.
January 2008

It is very important to reach an [international emissions] agreement by 2009.
April 2008

If we allow things to continue unchanged and we don’t take action today, it would destabilize human society…I hope that in the next year and a half…that we show a certain resolve and aspiration to do things that are required for the benefit of the human race.
August 2008

The least cost part of effective emissions reduction would really require us to see that global emissions peak no later than 2015. And that’s just four years away…if we have to meet that requirement of a least cost trajectory of emissions stabilisation then we really need to move rapidly and every country in the world has to do that.
May 2011

Climate Armageddon like tomorrow never comes, much like the CO2 Wolf really.

  1. It appears COP17 is increasing the hot air in the atmosphere rapidly. Duct tape over their mouths could save the Earth…..from carbon taxes, cap & trade schemes, bird shredding wind turbines, and junked out solar panels from failed plants laying about, not to mention plain old bullshit.

  2. Absolutely co2insanity. If the BBC are becoming somewhat disbelievers too, maybe there is some chance especially as they have put a lot of their super into carbon credits etc, and clean energy.

  3. What is actually going to happen is that a LOT of folks here in the UK are going to either end up homeless through the rising cost of living, or are going to die cold and hungry in their freezing homes purely because they cannot afford to pay for fuel and food. All this of course whilst those fat cats who are making all the profits continue to enjoy their “privileged” existance off our backs
