Dr Patrick Moore The Sensible Environmentalist

Dr Patrick Moore was one of the co-founders of Green NGO, Greenpeace, for several years Moore was chairman of Greenpeace in Canada, until he became concerned at the political direction Greenpeace was taking, and left the NGO.

Moore describes himself now, as a sensible environmentalist who is really concerned about protecting the environment, believes in sustainable development as an environmental objective, not the political sustainable development of the UN and Rio+20.

In January this year Moore upset the Greens when he spoke about wind power “The industry is a destroyer of wealth and negative to the economy”.

Then in July Moore caused more Green righteous anger when he attacked the warmists for their fear of CO2“These people are either completely naive about the relationship between CO2 and plants or they are making this up as a way of “deflecting attention from the lack of warming for the past 15 years.”

Now in an interview with Joseph Cotto of the Washington Times Moore has this to say:

Cotto: One of the gravest concerns you have cited with the modern environmentalist movement is its increasingly ideological nature. Some might say that this, in fact, is a positive development. How would you beg to differ?

Dr. Moore: Ideology is negative in so far as it tends to divide people into warring camps with no possible resolution. My late Greenpeace friend Bob Hunter suggested early on that in order for environmentalism to become a mass movement, it would have to be based on ideology, or as he called it “popular mythology,” because “not everybody can be a Ph.D. ecologist.”

No doubt about it Moore has hit the nail on the head, environmentalism has become a political ideology that uses fear and lies, in equal doses to push the message.

Cotto: Why do you think that contemporary environmentalists have become more hardline in their views?

Dr. Moore: By around the mid-1980s, when I left Greenpeace, the public had accepted most of the reasonable things we had been fighting for: stop the bomb, save the whales, stop toxic waste dumping into the earth, water, and air. Some, like myself, realized the job of creating mass awareness of the importance of the environment had been accomplished and it was time to move on from confrontation to sustainable development, seeking solutions. But others seemed bent on lifelong confrontation, “up against the man” “smash capitalism”, “join the world-wide struggle against globalization” (I actually saw this on a cardboard sign at a demo)

Moore does not believe in Anthropogenic Global Warming, or that CO2 is a climate driver, rather Moore believes tha CO2 is essential to all life on earth.

So what does Dr Moore fear:

I fear the irrational policies of extreme environmentalists far more that a warmer climate on this relatively cold planet (14.5 C global average temperature today compared with 25C during the Greenhouse Ages.

So is Dr Patrick Moore is a sensible environmentalist?

The answer is unequivocably yes.

We all want a nice environment to live in, with clean seas and rivers and abundant biological diversity, environmentalism as a check and balance for democratic capitalism most definitely has a place,  environmentalism as a political agenda with aspirations to become the new world order has no place, this sort of environmentalism should be confined to the landfill of history along with Communism and National Socialism.
