EU Energy Commissioner Calls EU 2030 Emissions Targets Stupid Or Arrogant

European Energy Commissioner Günther Oettinger – “It is becoming increasingly questionable whether our pioneering activities can be financed when the rest of the world does not follow suit”

It is just one month into 2014 and the decline in the Anthropogenic Global Warming boondoggle within the European Union continues, this time with visible splits in the EU Commission on Energy.

European Energy Commissioner Günther Oettinger has called the latest EU climate ambition for 2030 emissions targets “stupid or arrogant“, this is not the first time that Oettinger has broken ranks with the EU Green cabal. Last year Oettinger pointed out that there is no mileage in the leading the way with Green policies that kill jobs and make energy unaffordable, the rest of the world is not going to follow the EU’s lead and commit economic suicide.

The latest Green stupidity from the EU commission is to cut Greenhouse gas emissions 40% from 1990 levels by 2030, in plans announced last week.

Energy commissioner Günther Oettinger yesterday attacked the EU’s decision to cut greenhouse gas emissions 40% by 2030, calling the target “arrogant or stupid”.

He argued that the reduction in greenhouse gas emissions would not be worth the financial effort on the part of the EU, since the 28-state bloc is only responsible for a fraction of global emissions.

“Every percentage going down gets more difficult and cost intensive,” he told an industry conference organised by BusinessEurope, an influential lobby group frequently blamed for opposing ambitious EU climate targets.

The EU currently emits about 11% of global CO2 emissions and this is expected to drop to 4.5% in the next 15 years, the significance of which is not lost on Oettinger:

“To think that with this 4.5% of global emissions you can save the world is not realistic. It is arrogant or stupid. We need a global commitment.”

Oettinger is wrong, it is both arrogant and stupid, or, simply does not come into it.

The package will also include targets for intermittent and expensive renewable energy has still to be passed by the EU Council and the EU Parliament, which will not be a foregone conclusion like it once was.

Oettinger has spoken out in favor of Shale Gas and fracking, hailing the UK and Poland as cheap energy pioneers, while shrewdly pointing out that an abundance of cheap gas in Europe will reduce the influence that Vladmir Putin has via the Russian energy giant Gazprom.

For some of course the proposed package does not go far enough, the usual Green NGOs and environmental doomsayers say it is business as usual, and the EU needs to set an example to the other big emitters; they will then follow the EU like lemmings over the cliff of financial suicide.

Only they won’t, no one has yet and there are no indications that this status quo will change ever.

Still blinded by the righteous light of their noble socialist cause to destroy capitalism by Green measures, the mouthpiece for Green stupidity in the EU, unelected Climate Commissar Connie Hedegaard still dogmatically repeats the leading by example meme:

Speaking at King’s College London yesterday, climate commissioner Connie Hedegaard emphasised that Europe had the responsibility to take the first step.

“We are still the world’s largest economy,” she said. “We cannot just point fingers and say, ‘After you, sir.’ The whole world is looking to Europe and Europe’s leadership and saying, ‘If you can show us we can decouple economic growth from greenhouse gas emissions, then we might be able also to do it.’”

Hedegaard is delusional, some might say barking mad, for example Hedegaard believes that humanity can make a climate of its own choosing on Planet Earth, and that is just the tip of the iceberg of dogmatic lunacy.

As to the whole world looking to Europe for so called Climate Leadership, more Greenwash, most of the world who do not have their grasping hands out for Climate Justice money are busily finding ways out of the Green wealth redistribution scheme and dancing around it, while they pluck up the political courage to dump the whole fad in the political dumpster of history.
