Chris Huhne’s future is looking less bright with each passing day, despite an ambigious statement of support from David Cameron who said “I have confidence in all members of the Cabinet”, which is hardly the ringing endorsement that Huhne must have been hoping for.
Support for Huhne from his cabinet colleagues has been virtually non existent and in recent days Huhne has looked an increasigly isolated and beleagured figure.
Now Lib Dems colleagues of Huhne’s are openly questioning if Huhne should stay on in the Cabinet Read the rest of this entry
Friday May 6th is going to be an interesting day for Nick Clegg and the Lib Dems, double-barreled defeat staring them in the face as their vote in Local Council elections evaporates and the Yes vote for AV in the referendum on changing our voting system, crashes and burns.
Chris Hunhe has actually taken time off from screwing the energy security of this country to position himself in another bid to lead what will most likely be the smoking remains of the Lib Dem party, in some sort of post May 5th putsch to oust Nick Clegg. Read the rest of this entry
The LibDems until May this had not really held any real power, apart from the LibLab Pact since, well no one can really remember when there was such a thing as Liberal Deputy PM.
Aardvark is a not a fan of this coalition thing and even less of a fan of Little Nicky Clegg, he is what my mother would have called an “odious little twerp”.
At the begining of the year the LibDems prospects for power were about the same as Gordon Brown voluntarily calling an election, it was never going happen. From their safe little world over the last ninety years or so the Liberals, SDP, LIbDems as they currently are could make all sorts of rash promises safe in the knowledge that they were never going to have to deliver. Saintly wannabe Chancellor of the Lib
Lab Dems Alistair Cable Vince Darling Vince Cable has been caught out by the Lib Dems election poster which trying to spread fear worry about some fantasy VAT increase that Little Nicky and St Vince say the Conservatives are planning.
There is absolutely no foundation in fact, or reality, it is something that the Lib Dems just invented and they have been caught out:
Earlier in the week the Liberal Democrats launched a poster, warning of a VAT bombshell if the Conservatives won. Cross-examined by BBC1’s Politics Show today the Liberal Democrats’ Treasury spokesman admitted that the idea of a £389 bombshell was conjecture and conceded that he couldn’t rule out a hike in VAT. Transcript below.
JON SOPEL: I mean let’s leave aside whether or whether not there is a black hole in the Tories’ finances. Leave that to one side. You don’t know factually, that they are going to raise VAT. That is your conjecture.
VINCE CABLE: It is a conjecture and it’s a reasonable assumption and I wouldn’t claim anymore than that.
JON SOPEL: And that £389 is a rough figure plucked –
VINCE CABLE: It’s a ball park estimate of what it would require in order to fill that gap, and it seems a reasonable way of expressing that argument.”
JON SOPEL: Would you rule out raising VAT?
VINCE CABLE: No, I don’t. It’s something –
JON SOPEL: So therefore your position is no different to them.”
Hat tip to Tim Montgomerie for the story.
One of the most amusing political moments of the 1980s was David Steel and his “go back to your constituencies and prepare for government” at 1981 Liberal Conference.

“In his attack on William Hague as a “skinhead”, Chris Huhne is expressing the national dislike of baldies” writes David Lindsay in The Telegraph
The Lib Dem conference has not been an outstanding success for Little Nicky, firstly Vince Cable gaffed big time with the mansion tax, then much in-fighting about cuts, and now the Conservatives are rubbing salt in Little Nicky’s wounds
Aardvark has always thought the Lib Dems were just a watered down Labour, compare the vile attacks of Draper/Collins/McBride, Gordon Brown’s attack dogs, the with efforts of Little Nicky’s attack poodle calling William Hague baldy.
