Flashback to the dying moments of COP and Russian climate change negotiator Oleg Shamanov trying to get the COP18 President’s attention

Just about 6 months ago the latest UN Climate Circus meeting, COP18 in Doha finished, just like it’s predecessors from COP15 onwards, COP18 was an unmitigated failure.

From the start COP18 was doomed, the plummeting attendance levels seen at COP17 continued with COP18, the conference being less well attended then even COP17 was.

What really made COP18 a spectacular failure was the conduct of the COP18 President Abdullah bin Hamad Al-Attiyah during the closing stages of the conference, where desperate to find a successor to the failed Kyoto Protocol that expired on December 31st 2012, Al-Attiyah effectively forced through new non binding Kyoto texts.

The Kyoto amendment was tabled by the grasping hands of the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS) who will stop at nothing to get their Climate Justice money, the money they were promised for playing along with the AGW scam and perpetuating the lie that their islands are under threat from sea levels that are not rising, naturally the amendment was backed by those strongholds of Green foolishness Europe and Australia.

2013 Will Be The Worst Year For Warmists Since Records Began

The only international agreement on being terrified of CO2, the Kyoto Protocol finished at the end of 2012. With no chance of a new Kyoto Treaty being signed up to by the major emitters 2012 ended with another nail hammered into the Green coffin.

2012 was an unprecedented year of disaster and defeat for the Greens and warming alarmists, it was a year that on the face of it offered much hope to the watermelons, in June there was going to be  the Rio+20 Earth Summit, COP18 in Doha was going to build on the progress of COP17 and the Durban Platform and the European Union was going to single-handedly enforce a flying tax on the world.

Instead it all went to hell in solar powered hand cart, as Green defeat followed Green defeat.

On January 1st 2012 the EU announced the start of its Green flying tax on all flights in and out of the EU, as global opposition to the Green tax mounted, Comrade Connie Hedegaard, the EU’s unelected Climate Commissar remained bullish and insisted that the world would bow down to her Green will.

Many nations including the US, China and India prohibited their airlines from taking part in the EU flying tax amid threats of a trade war, particularly from China. Finally in November Hedegaard and the EU backed down and suspended their Green flying tax for forever 12 months.

The Rio+20 Earth summit held the promise of the  chance to relive the glory days of warming alarmism:

The outcome of COP18 did at least last a little bit longer than COP17, where just 1 day after COP17 finished, Canada exercised its legal right to withdraw from the Kyoto protocol stating that “Kyoto was not the way forward for Canada or the world“.

So it is no real surprise to learn that once again Kyoto is rapidly eroding what little COP18 achieved, which in essence was 37 countries agreeing to a non legally binding extension of Kyoto to run until 2020, not one major CO2 emitting country has signed up.

The scale of the Green defeat at Doha can be quantified by the fact that the 37 countries emit just 15% of the scary CO2 emissions, and the majority of the 15% (11%) comes from the EU block of nations.

The way that the new Kyoto texts were forced through by the COP18 President Abdullah bin Hamad Al-Attiyah at the close of the meeting is causing problems for the outcome:

COP18 was even by the standards of the UNFCCC, a spectacular failure, the delegates left Doha without any of the major emitters making a new pledge to cut the CO2 emissions.

There never were high expectations of COP18 producing a new binding agreement, but those attending were expecting some progress.

Instead they got absolutely nothing, and now the Green warming alarmists are in despair, no matter how loud or often they cry “Wolf”, no one listens any more:

COP18 has ended, and like its predecessors COP15, COP16, COP17 and Rio+20, COP18 has failed to achieve very much, which was frankly the expectation of both sides of the Anthropogenic Global Warming debate, before the conference even started.

Words and phrases like lame, toothless and the much used hell in a handcart have been used to describe the outcome of COP18.

So what was achieved at COP18?

Well the Kyoto Protocol will be extended until 2020, the problem being that only 37 countries out of the 194 attending signed up for the extension.

These countries are responsible for just 15% of global CO2 emissions, the treaty is not internationally binding,  so it falls far short of  the benchmark of the warming alarmists,  and it is yet another example of the totally pointless Green gesture politics that the European Union excels at.

There has been no warming for 16 years, a fact that even the UK Met Office cannot spin out of existence, yet for some people wedded to a belief system or a Liberal we must be fair and it makes me feel good to be equitable mindset, we live in an ever warming world where by 2050 we will all be as crisp as toast or the remnants of humanity will be fighting for the last place on Mount Ararat as the global sea levels rise 100’s of feet.

This is the sort of behaviour we have grown to expect from the Green NGOs like Greenpeace, WWF and FoE, it is par for the course, the problem begins when there are government ministers who think like this and they then give away billions of pounds that Britain does not have, to solve a problem that does not exist.

A UNFCCC Conference always brings out the staunch believers in Climate Religion, these days a dwindling band, but make no mistake there are still some people in the process who wield power and have the ability to spend waste tax payers money on their pet crusades:

The disintegration of the UN Climate Circus continues to pick up speed, as each passing day brings an another body blow to the dwindling band of UN warming alarmists.

From the perspective of the warmists and Green environmentalists COP18 has been a disaster, and now nations that would have benefited from the US$ 100bn Green Climate Fund have seen the Climate Fund exactly for what it is, control of their economies and lifestyles by the UN.

Yesterday UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said that the rich countries were responsible for the lack of warming in the last 16 years for global warming and had to  pay loads of money into the UN Climate Fund to atone for the heinous Green sin of progress.

The warmists plan went like this bleed the rich nations dry with payments to the UN Climate Fund, while at the same time crippling their industrial capability with emissions cuts, having got the so-called rich nations under control, they could then control the poorer nations by way of the UN Climate Fund.

COP18 – The Depression Phase

The early signs before the visa applicant counter vanished from the COP18 website were that hardly anyone was going, this has proved to be case.

COP18 in Doha could well be the penultimate UN Climate Circus in its present form.

The COP18 website had at one time a counter for the number of visa applications to attend the COP, then with just 20 days until the start of COP18 the counter suddenly vanished from the website.

Even before COP18 started the atmosphere was poisoned for the environmentalists because the COP18 President is pro Shale Gas, from the outset the conference has taken place in an atmosphere of mistrust, loathing and paranoia.

Then in a bizarre turn of events that not even the fertile mind of Hunter S Thompson could have conceived, just about everything that could be done to derail the conference has been done, Fear and Loathing in Doha really is the best description.

COP18 Russia Backs Off 25% Emissions Reduction Target

Russia refused to sign up to Kyoto, refuses to sign up to Kyoto CP2 and is now backsliding on 25% emissions cut.

Russia has always played a cynical game in the Climate Change scam, although a massive exporter of fossil fuels, mainly natural gas, Russia has been Green when it was politically and commercially expedient to be Green.

Take for example the sudden Greening of Russia when it comes to fracking in Eastern Europe, the reason for the opposition to Polish shale gas extraction is that the Russian energy Gazprom will see a decline in profits as countries produce their own gas much more cheaply, and Russia will lose political influence and not be able to force its political and economic will on other countries by turning off the gas, like Russia did to the Ukraine in 2009.

Russia as the Greens would say has form for signing up to emissions deals, at COP16 Russia opposed an extension of Kyoto, at COP17 one year later Russia stated it will never sign up to an extension of Kyoto.
