Excellent video from CBC News showing the detention at gun point of the Greenpeace activists in their Zodiacs while the Russian Coast Guard ship pursues the Greenpeace vessel Arctic Sunrise, and then opens fire with several warning shots.
Right up to the point where the Russians open fire, Greenpeace really do not have any comprehension of where this is going, or just how much brown smelly stuff they are just about to step into.
In another video clip
shot er sorry, filmed, on the bridge of the Arctic Sunrise the Captain of the Russian Coastguard ship can be clearly heard saying “if you do not stop your vessel we will use weapons“.
The response from Greenpeace is typically smug and very naive, because Greenpeace have a monopoly on deciding what is politically correct for Gaia, and more importantly how we should all live our lives.
Greenpeace:”We are here in order to make the world a better place and in response you are threatening to open fire on our ship“.
In reply the Russian Coastguard fires warning shots, the Arctic Sunrise finally stops, the Russians board the ship and tow it to Murmansk where all 30 people on board are charged with piracy. Read the rest of this entry
It is now a month since the Greenpeace activists pulled the tail of the Russian Bear and got severely mauled for their trouble.
A month where Greenpeace has had a very steep learning curve about the facts of life of the mechanics of the Russian justice system, a month where Greenpeace has learned they do not have the support of the “Civil Society” they always claim to be acting on behalf of.
Attempts to garner support for the Greenpeace activists in the pages of such Green Liberal MSM outlets as The Guardian and The Independent have failed to get any form of support for the Green martyrs, as this piece of blatant propaganda from Greenpeace director John Sauven shows: Read the rest of this entry
Free the Arctic 30. Donate, donate, donate, donate till ya drop.
Try as they might the combined forces of Greenpeace and The Guardian just cannot motivate the civil society they claim to represent to be outraged and indignant, in the Liberal Green way they should be, because 30 self appointed guardians of the Arctic are in assorted Russian prisons.
The lack of support in the now 4 current articles in the Guardian Environment section shows how out of touch Greenpeace are with public opinion here in the west, as well as in Russia.
An opinion poll in Russia on the actions of the Russian authorities gives 66% support for the way the Greenpeace employees were dealt with, though 17% thought the charges were too harsh and 8% deplored them as too lenient. There is a very big message that all the Green NGO’s would be well advised to hear loud and clear in this poll from the Russian people:
Two in three respondents said the government should curb any attempt of foreign-based environmental organizations to stop Russia from developing the Arctic basin.
One of the most interesting aspects of the Greenpeace pirates story is the deafening silence from the embassy’s of the foreign nationals currently under arrest in Murmansk. Apart from some muted comments from the Dutch about the Arctic Sunrise being a Dutch registered vessel and a faint mumbling from the Finns about one of their nationals, nobody seems bothered about a bunch of Green activists being in prison.
This must have come as a surprise to Greenpeace who are used to Politicians in the West hanging on their every word and being terrified of upsetting Greenpeace on its self appointed mission to destroy industrialized society.
So when Greenpeace director John Sauven wrote this piece in The Guardian in today they would have been expecting unwavering support from the Green Guardianistas who would of course be suitably outraged that these people were arrested for following their conscience, one of the most noble Liberal acts anyone can do, and which, should of course, make you immune from any sort of punishment. Greenpeace have just made a massive miscalculation of who to mess with in the Arctic, in this case Russia.
The story goes like this Greenpeace wanted to go the Northern Sea Route in Russia’s Arctic and protest, for that read, interrupt the search for oil and gas in the Arctic, the Arctic is reckoned to have 13% of the worlds undiscovered oil reserves and around 31% of the worlds undiscovered natural gas reserves.
Entry to the Northern Sea Route is by permit only, Greenpeace applied 3 times, and 3 times the Russians rejected the application, so the nobly motivated watermelons at Greenpeace decided they would ignore the lack of permit and go anyway.
A major miscalculation by Greenpeace, the old USSR might be gone, but the new Russia led by Comrade Putin is little changed from the USSR, now instead of the KGB, there are the incredibly rich oligarchs and Gazprom pulling the strings behind the scenes, with same the ruthlessness that the KGB once did. Democracy and free democratic protest is an anathema to Russians used to centuries of despotic rule by the Czars and 70 years of communist tyranny, and the sort of praise that Greenpeace gets in the west from fawning Liberal politicians is never going to happen in Russia. Just about 6 months ago the latest UN Climate Circus meeting, COP18 in Doha finished, just like it’s predecessors from COP15 onwards, COP18 was an unmitigated failure.
From the start COP18 was doomed, the plummeting attendance levels seen at COP17 continued with COP18, the conference being less well attended then even COP17 was.
What really made COP18 a spectacular failure was the conduct of the COP18 President Abdullah bin Hamad Al-Attiyah during the closing stages of the conference, where desperate to find a successor to the failed Kyoto Protocol that expired on December 31st 2012, Al-Attiyah effectively forced through new non binding Kyoto texts.
The Kyoto amendment was tabled by the grasping hands of the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS) who will stop at nothing to get their Climate Justice money, the money they were promised for playing along with the AGW scam and perpetuating the lie that their islands are under threat from sea levels that are not rising, naturally the amendment was backed by those strongholds of Green foolishness Europe and Australia.
When COP18 finished the Russians were far from happy about COP18 and Oleg Shamanov being ignored: Read the rest of this entry
Russia has always played a cynical game in the Climate Change scam, although a massive exporter of fossil fuels, mainly natural gas, Russia has been Green when it was politically and commercially expedient to be Green.
Take for example the sudden Greening of Russia when it comes to fracking in Eastern Europe, the reason for the opposition to Polish shale gas extraction is that the Russian energy Gazprom will see a decline in profits as countries produce their own gas much more cheaply, and Russia will lose political influence and not be able to force its political and economic will on other countries by turning off the gas, like Russia did to the Ukraine in 2009.
Russia as the Greens would say has form for signing up to emissions deals, at COP16 Russia opposed an extension of Kyoto, at COP17 one year later Russia stated it will never sign up to an extension of Kyoto.
Playing the game expertly as ever, Russia at the failed Rio+20 Earth summit in June announced a 25% emissions cut target: Read the rest of this entry
2 weeks today the UN COP17 Climate Change Conference will start in Durban, already predicted to fail by the UN itself, another nail has been hammered into the COP17 coffin by Russia stating unequivocally that it will not commit economic suicide by signing up to Kyoto 2, unless every other country in the world signs up as well.
Russia has a government that puts economic prosperity and energy security ahead of the moral superiority of the Left/Green/Marxist/Watermelon agenda that seems to think there is something noble and lofty in killing jobs and pushing the most vulnerable people in society into energy poverty, all so they can lead the charge over the cliff and back to the misery of an Agrarian economy and society. Latest news (10:55 GMT) from COP16 at Cancun, Russia will not renew Kyoto along with Japan and Canada.
Chris Huhne said yesterday the scam was poised between a “car crash” and success, well Chris it looks like the car and the wall have got together now.
As the global warming scam stiffens with rigor mortis Aardvark is left wondering why the alarmists always used pictures with smoke to illustrate CO2 emissions. Read the rest of this entry
